Beef vindaloo curry recipe

Indian curry can use any of the various meats available in the country. This includes lamb, fish, and chicken. But out of all the meats used in curry dishes, it is the beef that is considered by many to be very tasty, hence, giving the curry dish an added flavor.

Here are the ingredients that you need to create a perfect beef vindaloo curry:

  • 1 kilogram of blade steak or chuck steak
  • 1 teaspoon of black mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of ground coriander
  • 2 teaspoons of curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon of fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves of crushed garlic
  • 3 teaspoons of vindaloo curry paste
  • 1 ½ tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of oil
  • 1 extra tablespoon of oil
  • 300 grams of sliced onions
  • 410 grams of canned tomatoes
  • 425 grams of canned pureed tomato

Here are the steps that you should follow in making beef vindaloo curry:

  1. Cut the chuck steak or the blade steak into cubes.
  2. In a dry pan, heat the cumin seeds and the black mustard seeds.
  3. Stir well until the seeds pop. Make sure that you would not burn the seeds.
  4. Set it aside and let it cool.
  5. In a deep bowl, combine the steak, the seeds, curry powder, coriander, garlic, ginger, apple cider vinegar, vindaloo curry paste, and a tablespoon of oil. Mix the ingredients very well.
  6. Use foil or plastic food wrapper to cover the bowl. If you want the beef to be very rich in flavor before cooking, refrigerate the mixture and leave it overnight.
  7. In cooking the beef vindaloo curry, heat the oil in a pan. Add onions and stir consistently.
  8. Wait until it onions are cooked or until it is already soft.
  9. Add the mixture of steak. Cook it and stir continuously. Do this for about 10 minutes.
  10. Do not drain the canned tomatoes. Add it in the pan and stir consistently. Afterwards, add the can of tomato puree. Cover the pan and wait until it simmers.
  11. Leave it for at least thirty minutes or until the steak is already tender.
  12. If the sauce decreased while waiting for the steak to be tender, put small amount of hot water and stir. Some people also opt to let it dry instead to have a thick curry sauce.
  13. Best served when hot.

The beef vindaloo curry can be eaten with any staple food such as rice or any kind of Indian breads. If you want the beef vindaloo curry to be extra spicy, just add chopped chilies or chili powders instead. Since the dish is served hot, you can always accompany your meal with a lime juice or any kind of cold beverage as well.
